Shakespeare's Sickness
For my final year of college, I looked at the declining mental states of characters from the works of Shakepeare. I chose to address three issues that can be linked to the decline of mental health in three of his characters. Depression, a commonality nowadays, but then attributed to the gentile heart and fragility of Ophelia, causing her to commit suicide. The rampant frivolity of A Midsummer's Night Dream, can illicit thoughts close to that of drug use, as it even includes a substance that alters one's state of mind And finally the guilt and regret of Lady Macbeth, and the blood that she can never wash from her hands, leads to her madness and eventual suicide
